Since 1968, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter has been a leading arena for Norwegian and international art, with a central art collection, as well as a broad program of exhibitions and musical events.
In September 2019, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter officially announced artist Otobong Nkanga as the inaugural winner of the Lise Wilhelmsen Art Award. The award presents 100,000 USD in prize money to a distinguished, mid-career artist, as well as inclusion of the artist's work in the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter collection, and a dedicated exhibition at the museum the following year.
MONA created the announcement video about Otobong Nkanga's award, featuring a studio visit with the artist at work, interviewing her about her practice and highlighting past work.
In 2021/22, Henie Onstad commissioned MONA to create a video for their Art Channel, featuring Berlin-based artists Elmgreen & Dragset. Elmgreen & Dragset presented their work ›AIDS Is Good, Business for Some‹ (2011/2022) across Norway via 736 Clear Channel digital advertising platforms. They also showed their series ›Stigma‹ in the exhibition ›Every Moment Counts – AIDS and Its Feelings‹ which was on view at Henie Onstad from February 18, 2022. MONA visited the artist duo in their Neukölln studio, where they spoke to us about their collaborative practice as well as their particular interest in the AIDS epidemic and its continued relevance today.
